Paris Saint-Germain Announce Surprise Signing

French giants Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced their first signing of the January transfer window, which may come as a surprise to many.

Les Parisiens have secured the signature of ex-Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal and Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old has signed with PSG until June 2019, following his exit from UAE side Al-Jazira in December 2017.

Speaking on his move, Diarra said putting pen to paper on a deal with his hometown club is something he feels proud about.

“I am very happy to have signed for my home-town club, declared Lassana Diarra after signing his contract on Tuesday,” he told the club’s official website.

“Paris Saint-Germain represents a lot to me and, with the international dimension the club has taken in recent seasons, it is every player’s dream to play here.

“I am lucky enough to make this dream come true, to know what it feels like to play at the Parc des Princes wearing the Rouge et Bleu.

“I intend to do everything I can, bring all my experience and show all my desire to play, to prove that the club has made the right choice in showing its confidence in me.”

Diarra, who has been considered somewhat of a journeyman, has only made more than 50 appearances for one club in his entire career – Los Blancos.

The Frenchman represented the Spanish giants on 116 occasions in three years, while he also has 34 caps for France to his name.
